About Course
The programme centres on applying earlier postgraduate study to a focused research problem. Students can explore an issue that matters to a health or care organisation and consider how a reasoned investigation could inform management decisions.
The project is an opportunity to move from identifying a problem to developing a defensible response. It combines academic inquiry with attention to the practical setting in which findings might be used.
This is a completion pathway: applicants need qualifying postgraduate learning before entry. The top-up itself comprises one 60-credit module, rather than a full set of taught master’s modules.
Course Content
The following themes describe stages within the single Research Project module.
Project Focus and Proposal
Begin with an organisation or sector issue that can support a manageable investigation. A clear focus helps connect the research question to the people who may use its findings.
Module: Research Project
→ Define a relevant problem and explain why it matters.
→ Establish the purpose and proposed scope of the investigation.
Research Design and Analysis
Consider what evidence is needed to answer the question and how it can be examined responsibly. The strength of a conclusion depends on the suitability and limitations of its evidence.
Module: Research Project
→ Select an appropriate approach to the research question.
→ Examine evidence critically and recognise its limitations.
Management Report and Recommendations
Bring the investigation together in a report written for a management audience. Recommendations should follow from the analysis and reflect the circumstances of the organisation.
Module: Research Project
→ Present a clear argument linking findings to recommendations.
→ Consider practical implications, risks and implementation needs.
